Position Information:


Yudi Gunyi School caters for 42 students from 10-17 years of age who need additional support with a range of behaviour and mental health needs.

The supports equip them and their referring school with skills and strategies to experience success in a mainstream school, or post school environment.

The Metropolitan Lands Council and local elder have been a mainstay of our school since inception in 2003.


The school, in collaboration with NSW Health and Allied Health has developed a new model of care, creating a set of universal teaching skills, collegial support channels and clinical services to improve outcomes for children, and their families.

The scope of services and support use an agreed common-language to collaborate, is trauma-informed and grounded in the principles of neuroscience.


At Yudi Gunyi School, a team including specialists who collaborate to develop a wraparound approach to curriculum and wellbeing that is innovative and integrative.


On its grounds, the school also hosts a Supported Return to School Program for students to participate in while suspended from their mainstream school.


Selection Criteria:

In addition to the general selection criteria,


Proven ability to provide high level instructional leadership in meeting curriculum requirements and learning experiences, to drive the growth and achievement of every student in a multi-stage setting with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.


Expertise and commitment to trauma informed practice that intersects with other agencies to complement the school's wraparound model and educational programs.


A clear vision to develop and implement Personalised Learning and Support Plans that support inclusion and transition to mainstream settings and other appropriate programs, including pathways beyond schooling.


General Selection Criteria:


  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
