This is an exciting opportunity for a PR, media, or arts professional to join a positive and high-achieving environment and relish opportunities to work across a range of creative and sophisticated initiatives.

Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills are essential to build relationships and creatively collaborate with media, artists, creatives, the broader company, and arts industry colleagues.


Working closely with the Public Relations Manager, your role will be to plan and implement publicity campaigns that contribute to delivering STC's sales targets, as well as generate media coverage that raises the profile of the Company's associated activities including community programs, artist development, general advocacy, major projects, and the Company's corporate profile.


This is a hands-on, busy role, and you must be able to prioritise and plan your workload in an environment where there are many competing projects, campaigns, and deadlines.

Aside from the information outlined in the job description other relevant details of the position are:

  • Hours of Work
The usual hours of work are 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday however, the position requires flexibility.

You will be expected to work outside of usual hours or additional hours at times facilitate media interviews and attend events.

This is an office-based role at STC's Wharf Theatres, with some flexibility

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential

  • Exceptional writing and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of the media landscape in Australia
  • 2 5 years' experience working on publicity campaigns, preferably within performing arts
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in the performing arts
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously while responding to spontaneous developments
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, always on the lookout for new opportunities and developments in media and performing arts industries
  • Comfortable and confident working independently as well as within a team
Desirable

  • A degree in media, communications, or arts
  • Applicants who may have limited but relevant experience (eg careerchangers or less than 2 years arts industry experience) are encouraged to apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Publicity campaigns

  • In collaboration with the Public Relations Manager, devise and implement all components of comprehensive publicity campaigns for STC's productions
  • Write and distribute media releases and other communications for selected productions, initiatives, and activities.
  • Facilitate media interviews and photo shoots with cast and creatives.
  • Coordinate production photography
  • Prepare and distribute compendiums of media coverage to cast and creatives and/or the representatives on completion of the production's season
  • Manage media ticketing including opening night media lists and inseason media ticketing seasons in collaboration with the Customer Services team.
Media relationships and monitoring

  • Monitor media daily including managing the relationship with STC's media monitoring agency for all Companyrelated coverage; maintain records and manage distribution of coverage to the Company
  • Maintain an extensive, uptodate media contact database; consistently monitor publications and outlets to look out for new opportunities and keep up to date with changes to the media landscape
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with journalists, critics, editors, commentators and others across all media.
General

  • Provide a general support role to, and deputise for, the Public Relations Manager as necessary.
  • Ensure the smooth running of Sydney Theatre Company media campaigns and projects at all times.
  • Regularly review activities and campaigns to ensure they support Sydney Theatre Company's objectives.
  • Work closely with colleagues in marketing and other teams to ensure a holistic approach to communications regarding Sydney Theatre Company activities.
