Who are we looking for?

Infinity is seeking Senior Design Manager to lead and oversee the end-to-end design process for commercial construction projects, ensuring alignment with client requirements, quality standards and project timelines.

You will report to the Project Manager (PM) and work collaboratively with the project team and other associated partners.

Key responsibilities

Pre Contract

  • Liaise with the Client's representative(s) to ascertain the requirements of the Principal's Project Requirements (PPR).
  • Make detailed site inspections to ascertain the project constraints.
  • Assist estimators and cost planners with relevant design information and advice when requested.
  • Be actively involved in value engineering and value management when requested.
  • Understand and advise on the DA/CC matrix.
  • Give technical design advice during the Early Contract Involvement (ECI) period.
  • Update the PPR as necessary during the development of the design.
Post Contract

  • Prepare and manage the design program showing major activities (including client and authority approval milestones), update the program as necessary in conjunction with the construction program.
  • When required, call and assess tenders for all design consultants.
  • With direction from the Project Director/s, ensure documents and inclusions are reviewed and approved by the client before progressing at each phase of the project to be clear on the scope and budget and that there is a uniformed agreement.
  • Report and liaise to relevant Directors to keep them informed on the status of the project and seek their advice on matters relating to that project.
  • Discuss and seek countersigning of fee proposal letters, consultant fee orders and fee variation orders with relevant Directors.
  • Work collaboratively with the project managers, estimators and others working on the project, ensuring any information on the project is shared with the team.
  • Prepare reports for Directors as required on project progress and costs.
  • Is involved in cost planning & reporting for the budget.
  • Lead, instruct and work with design team, ensuring designs and documentation are prepared in a timely manner, within budget and are fit for the intended purpose.
  • In conjunction with the Project Director/s, be responsible for the preconstruction fee budget including determination of consultant fees, assesses and authorize consultant payment claims, monitor and report on expenditure, forecast fee costs to complete and manage fee variations;
  • Chair and record the minutes of consultant coordination meetings.
  • Where applicable, ensure all projects are reviewed in writing with the involvement of relevant independent specialists.
  • Facilitate all necessary construction input into the design development, which should include construction and end user safety, construction detailing, programming and cost engineering.
Authorities

  • Develop an Authorities strategy, liaising/meeting with Councils and/or other statutory authorities.
  • In conjunction with clients representatives, facilitate/guide projects through the approval process and take the initiative if projects become delayed.
