bout the Opportunity


Working as part of our national Ecology team, you will play a key role in further developing Umwelt's profile for ecological projects across Victoria and expanding our service delivery in this discipline.

This will also involve promoting the Melbourne office ecology presence for Umwelt.


With support from the Regional Manager - Victoria and the Ecology Manager South East Australia, you will lead the Victorian Ecology team's direction and development, including identifying, winning, leading, managing and completing a wide range of ecological projects and taking ownership of all aspects of project delivery to provide a fully integrated outcome in a manner that maintains and enhances Umwelt's reputation.


You will have a strong business development function leveraging from Umwelt's strong ecology reputation and from your existing relationships and ability to form strong and lasting relationships with clients.

About you
We are looking for a Principal Ecologist who has the following:

  • T
- ertiary qualifications in a relevant field with 10+ years' relevant experience. S
- ubstantial ecological experience in one or multiple of the following sectors: infrastructure, defence, resources and extractive industry, or commercial development. C
- onsiderable consulting experience and/or a combination of consulting and client/regulator side ecology experience. D
- xperience delivering biodiversity values and constraints assessments, rehabilitation monitoring, surveys, and impact and offset assessments. E
- xperience leading ecology surveys, assessments, and reporting. A
- bility to develop and maintaining positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including peers, clients, and government agencies. A
- bility to work in a professional team as well as autonomously. H
- ighly motivated with a strong team commitment. W
- illingness to support the development and implementation of the growth strategy for the ecology workstream in Victoria. A
- bility to prepare successful large tender/proposal documents. K
- nowledge of infrastructure and renewables sectors.
