About MATES in Construction
MATES was established in 2008, MATES are an evidenced
- based organisation who provide suicide prevention through community development programs on site, and by supporting workers in need through case management and a 24/7 help line. MATES serve the construction industry in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia, the Energy industry in Queensland and New South Wales, and nationally to the Mining industry.

The program was developed from a solid evidence base provided by the Australian Institute of Suicide Research and Prevention:

  • The AISRAP Report_.

The Role - Social Media and Digital Communications Coordinator - MATES in Construction (National)
***Reporting to the National Marketing and Communications Manager, the Social Media and Digital Communications Coordinator is responsible for executing the organisations social media strategies. The Social Media and Digital Communications Coordinator will engage MATES audience, champion mental health in the construction industry and promote the mission of supporting workers' mental well-being. Additionally, assist with events, fundraising activities, website content and internal communications.


As Social Media and Digital Communications Coordinator, you will:

  • Develop and execute social media strategies across platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube
  • Create engaging, highquality content (text, images, videos) to convey MATES' messages, programs, events and initiatives.
  • Manage community interactions, responding to comments, messages, and enquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain a social media content calendar, ensuring consistent posting aligned with MATES' initiatives and events.
  • Track, analyse, and report on social media performance metrics.
  • Assist in the management of events and fundraising activities through various operational tasks
  • Coordinate internal communications and collaboration for campaigns and programs.
  • Administer and update website content.

Your Skills and Attributes

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging content across platforms.
  • Proficient in popular social media platforms and management tools
  • Creative design skills using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
  • Experience with website content management systems.
  • Familiarity with mental health/ and construction industry a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Commitment to collaborate with adaptability in fastpaced environment
