The role

Reporting to the Manager, Policy you will undertake a lead role in the analysis, development, implementation and evaluation of Chief Psychiatrist policies to ensure the proper and effective operation of the Mental Health Act 2016.

Your ongoing research and analysis of information design strategies will inform the delivery of a contemporary policy portfolio that meets the needs of our stakeholders.

You will provide expert advice on complex, sensitive and time critical matters in relation to the Mental Health Act 2016 and other legislation or system-wide policies, procedures and issues that impact on the rights and interests of consumers and victims.

This role is responsible for coordinating lived experience engagement, participation and co-design within the Chief Psychiatrist policy development portfolio.

Furthermore, you will lead and manage complex projects and activities of significant scope and strategic importance within the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist in line with Queensland Health project management methodologies to ensure the delivery of timely and quality project outcomes.

Activities within this work program will be delivered under the key priorities of Better Care Together, the five-year plan setting the strategic directions and priorities across the state-funded mental health, alcohol and other drug service system.

The successful person


To be successful in this role you will have a comprehensive understanding and breadth of knowledge of the interpretation and requirements of the Mental Health Act 2016 and associated policy.

You will also have high level project management skills including the ability to manage and evaluate projects, utilise relevant systems and effectively integrate related activities to achieve project deliverables and outcomes.


In addition to this, you will have the proven ability to communicate with influence, interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to cultivate productive working relationships and networks.

This includes responsibility for administering the Mental Health Act 2016 and a comprehensive program of information management to support clinical care, service improvement, planning, purchasing and building the evidence base.
