Payroll Manager

Local Government based in CBD close to public transport offers 6 month contract that could lead to longer-term opportunities, this role is about overseeing the payroll function within the finance team and providing operational support.

Taking responsibility for the processing of payroll in a way that is accurate and timely, in accordance with legislation, policies, and award requirements, as well as supporting employees' queries related to their entitlements and conditions under the Crown Employees Award.


About the Role

  • Maintain accurate and timely processing of endtoend payroll for local Government, including PAYG, Payroll Tax, Leave Loading, and Super calculation
  • Responsible for payroll admin, employee master file data, system changes, leave, and pay adjustments, administration of paid parental leave and salary sacrifice, workers' compensation claims, redundancy calculation, and offboarding activities
  • Preparation of endofmonth payroll reports, leave reconciliations, management reports, transfer of provisions between agencies, and other external reports such as ABS surveys.
  • Assist the Finance team to ensure payroll data and employee provisions are reconciled to the General Ledger each month
  • Continually identify efficiencies in current payroll process, including system enhancement implementations
  • Assistance as directed by the supervisor on other financial matters, including audits, projects, budgets, financial analysis, as well as covering other staff's work within the Finance team

This is a full-time role & initially contracted for 6 months but it could lead to longer-term opportunities.


Skills & Experience you need in- Ability to work with internal teams to support testing and system updates- Knowledge and understanding of payroll processes- Assist in the implementation of a new system- Chris 21 experience is desirable (Payroll System)
