Position Information:

Megalong Public School is nestled in the beautiful Megalong Valley.

Our small rural school has traditionally provided public education for over 131 years to the local farming families of the valley.

Our school is set on two acres of pristine eucalypts with an abundance of wildlife, in a protected setting surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Blue Mountains Escarpment.

Our school currently has 8 students enrolled. Our students range in age from Year 1 to Year 5. In 2024 a Kindergarten student will be enrolled.

Our student-centred, personalised programs have continued to provide a learning field that enriches and advances every student who attends. 'Each student is known, valued and cared for'.

Every student gains a sense of recognition of leadership, positive and improved literacy and numeracy, wellbeing, and a feeling of close community and extended family friendships due to attending a small school like Megalong Public School.


Our school provides a nurturing and supportive learning environment valuing a strong partnership between students, staff, parents, and the wider community.

There is a high degree of family and community involvement across all school activities, which is highly valued.


Our school values the close relationship with our Aboriginal community and places importance on their contribution to ensure that all students are provided with a rich curriculum that educates them about Aboriginal histories and cultures.

This is a teaching principal position.


Selection Criteria:


In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary, with demonstrated ability to provide stimulating, innovative and holistic teaching and learning programs that meet a diverse range of complex student learning and wellbeing needs.


Demonstrated ability to balance the complexities of the teaching, administration, and collaborative leadership roles of a teaching principal through strong communication and interpersonal skills.


Capacity to promote and enhance inclusive, environmental community programs and build and sustain collaborative community and parent partnerships via transparent communication with all stakeholders.

Capacity to meaningfully connect with the local Aboriginal community and embed Aboriginal cultural perspectives within and beyond the classroom.


General Selection Criteria:


  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
