A little bit about us


A key role for the Department is to strengthen communities and regions by fostering local economic growth and implementing good governance, including in Australia's external Territories.

The Australian Government, through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (the Department) administers the Ashmore and Cartier Islands, Christmas Island, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, the Coral Sea Islands, the Jervis Bay Territory and Norfolk Island.

The Department also manages the Government's interests in the Australian Capital Territory, and the Northern Territory.

The opportunity we have available


The Territories Capital and Major Projects (TCMP) team primarily delivers infrastructure projects related to Australia's external territories of Christmas Island, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (which make up the Indian Ocean Territories or IOT), and Norfolk Island, as well as the Jervis Bay Territory on the mainland.


The TCMP team manages and delivers a broad range of complex capital investment projects, procurement of complex service management contracts and the management of major service contracts.

These include port management services to Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Ferry and Bus Services to Cocos (Keeling) Island.

What will you do?


As part of its role the TCMP team is responsible for the implementation and management of an asset management framework for the Territories Division.

We have a current vacancy for an Asset Officer to work directly with the Asset Manager in support of asset management across the administered Territories.


You will work as a part of a small team with responsibility for administration of assets within a formal asset management framework.

You will be expected to work with internal and external stakeholders to manage assets across Australia's administrated territories of Christmas Island, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Norfolk Island and Jervis Bay Territory.


The Asset Officer's key duties include:

  • Developing asset renewal and optimisation business cases for low risk capital projects;-
  • Assisting in the management of specialist consultancies and specialist service providers including writing detailed briefs;-
  • Appling relevant asset management processes, procedures and risk assessment techniques and contributing to the maintenance and improvement of the asset management system;-
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders;-
  • Appling relevant standards, specifications and guidelines;-
  • Ensuring effective asset data collection and integration processes are in place to inform capital woks programs;-
  • Analysing asset management performance, data and data maturity assessments and reporting;-
  • Managing and resolving asset related enquiries within agreed timeframes and maintain accurate and timely records and reporting, including initiating follow up action and resolution with stakeholders as required;-
  • Coordinating and contributing to the strategic asset management planning and management system design; and-
  • Support the Asset Manager and TCMP Director to achieve section and branch objectives.
