About the role(s)

AHP- Allied Health Practitioner Mental health


The Senior Clinician will work with SAPOL as a secondary response team to respond to mental health related events within the community or police custodial facilities.

The Senior Clinician will conduct a mental health assessment of the consumer and triage service to inform the management and appropriate course of action to ensure the safety of the consumer and staff.

This may include (but is not limited to) detention under the Mental Health Act and/or transport to a hospital or treatment centre and the utilisation external resources where appropriate such as Non-Government Organisations, community originations or GPs.


The Senior Clinician (AHP3) is responsible to the Team Manager of Western Community Mental Health (Port) for the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of quality Mental Health services for patients of the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN).


Working in conjunction with other team members and other health professionals the Senior Clinician optimises patient functional and health outcomes in this specialty area.

As a highly skilled and competent clinician, the incumbent delivers quality services and provides clinical leadership within the acute hospital services, providing support and supervision to less experienced staff.


Educational/Vocational Qualifications

For a Clinical Psychologist:

  • Must hold an appropriate degree Master of Psychology (Clinical) or equivalent qualification recognised by the PsyBA.
  • Must hold general registration with the PsyBA and be endorsed in Clinical Psychology area of practice.
  • Must hold approved supervisor status with the PsyBA at all levels of supervision (primary and secondary).

For an Occupational Therapist:

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

For a Social Worker:

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
