Are you passionate about mental health research and looking for a meaningful way to contribute to our community? Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation Board is seeking a dedicated and committed individual to join our board of directors as a non-paid Board Member.


  • To provide expertise guidance for the implementation of our research strategy.
  • To evaluate our present and future research investments so we are able to maximise their impact.
  • Shape our future direction and research plans.

About the Client:

Breakthrough is Australia's first and only foundation purely focused on raising funds to invest in life-changing mental health research.


Our goal is to fund evidence-based research to better understand what causes mental illness, how to reduce its impact and ultimately prevent mental illness from happening in the first place.

What you will be doing and will be responsible for:
As a Board Member on Breakthrough Board, you will:

  • Utilise Your Expertise: Bring your valuable background in Research to guide and support our organisation in making informed decisions.
  • Chair the

Research Committee:
Lead a critical committee in the development and oversight of our research initiatives.

  • Shape Our Mission: Play a vital role in shaping the direction and strategic research focus of our organisation.
  • Advocate for Change: Work collaboratively with a dedicated team to advocate for improved mental health awareness and policies.

As the Chair of the Research Committee, you will:

  • Provide assistance to the Board to develop and oversee the research strategy of the Foundation;
  • Ensure the allocation of research funding support, the Foundation's strategic outcomes;
  • Assess the impact of the Foundation's funded research;
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the Board, Management, Funders and Researchers.

'What you look like' and need to demonstrate to be successful'.

  • A background in Health Research.
  • Research governance and process is a must have knowledge set.
  • Strong leadership skills and a passion for making a difference.
  • Commitment to attending board meetings and contributing actively to discussions.
  • Willingness to actively participate in fundraising and advocacy efforts.
  • Dedication to the Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundations Board's mission and vision, to help create a life free of mental illness.
