The Role
The duties of the APS6 Industry & Procurement Lead include:

  • Accountable to undertake procurement policy development, management and review ensuring compliance with legislation and mandatory policies, processes and procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide procurement policy advice, assistance, products and services to facilitate risk management, ethics and probity.
  • Engage and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders relating to the Commonwealth Procurement Framework to manage procurement risks and achieve value for money.
  • Build and sustain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and actively participate in teamwork and group activities to deliver agreed outcomes.
  • Take the initiative to identify impacts of changes to relevant Commonwealth procurement policies and recommend potential improvements to procurement practices.
  • Interpret, recommend and provide advice and assistance on procurement policy and identify alternative courses of action where appropriate.
  • Coordinate and manage the development and implementation of policies and associated programs to promote Defence industry participation in domestic and international programs consistent with Defence objectives.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives for the delivery of ongoing services and systems in support of industry programs.
  • Develop submissions, briefs and reports and provide advice.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in relation to Defence industry policies and programs.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively participates in team work and group activities.
  • Interpret and analyse policies and programs to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and procedures.
  • Resolve complex issues associated with managing Defence industry policies and programs.
The successful applicant will be required to travel.


About our Team

The establishment of the Joint PNT Directorate (JPD) delivers an integrated approach towards the unique and complex ADF PNT capability.

The JPD integrated campaigning approach involves partnerships across all domains, whole of Australian government, international partners, science and technology, academia and industry.

Through Joint Project 9380 Assured PNT, the Directorate is providing the ADF PNT focal point to prepare, collaborate, and transition PNT information and capabilities for the ADF.

JPD roles include;

  • PNT standards,
  • PNT resilience and technology readiness analysis,
  • PNT operations and situational awareness support,
  • Navigation Warfare support,
  • PNT engagement, and
  • Defence time.


They will provide detailed procurement policy technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.

The APS 6 Industry & Procurement Lead may be a team coach or lead a team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows.

They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit.

They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.

The APS 6 Industry & Procurement Lead will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex issues.

They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders' needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes.

They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
