About the opportunity


We're looking for a talented Engineering Manager to help build and lead three burgeoning Engineering teams (comprised of approximately 20 people).

As an Engineering Manager you will work closely with Partners, Product Managers, Technical Leads and Delivery Leads to deliver solutions that add value to internal and external customers.

You will need to be curious, self-sufficient, detailed and intrinsically motivated.

About our platform tech:

  • Java/Spring/Go microservices
  • Open source and AWS technologies (ECS/RDS/DynamoDB/S3/SQS/APIGateway/Lambda), IaC (Cloudformation)
Reporting to the Head of Product Engineering, the Engineering Manager will:

  • work with Engineers, Technical Leads and Delivery Leads to establish career plans, review promotions & coach
- manage your groups resource planning, recruitment and headcount needs
- participate in technical discussions and own outcomes for all of your teams
- establish and monitor metrics that help to increase performance and quality
- balance delivery, quality and technical excellence
- collaborate closely with senior leadership to plan and execute multiple organisational initiatives
- build performant and maintainable solutions
- create an environment for all group members to help solve challenging problems
- track and report progress towards agreed delivery milestones, escalating as needed


Requirements:


Ideally, you'll have:

  • At least 7 years of hands on software engineering experience, with (at least one of) Java or C#
  • At least 3 years experience of being responsible for people management
- experience developing software in a cloud-hosted environment (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- the willingness to experiment, fail, and try again
- a strong sense of curiosity and self motivation, and the willingness to participate in all areas of engineering
- experience across the whole software development lifecycle, including running what you build
- the desire to share your knowledge and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical people
- the ability to comprehend, coordinate, and communicate effectively
- experience in building and maintaining a collaborative team culture
- experience in raising the profile of and promoting, team achievements
- a track record of successful delivery and leading happy teams


Bonus points for having:
- a fintech and payments background
- experience managing other managers
