Experienced Communications and Engagement professional with project delivery experience is required to join an exciting project within a large NSW Government.

10 month contract with long term opportunity
Penrith location (one day per week) and the rest from home. Some site travel required
$630 to $730 per day plus super

About the role:


The Manager, Communications and Engagement supports the development, design, coordination and delivery of communications and engagement strategies and activities to enable the department to effectively collaborate with its government, industry and community stakeholders in the development of policies, strategies, plans and programs aligned with the development a new city centre.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Proactively work with leadership to develop and implement targeted, innovative and integrated programs of engagement to ensure relevant stakeholders are engaged, informed and have the opportunity to provide input into the development of the departments policies, plans and programs
  • Influence effective engagement program design and delivery by researching and identifying the specific issues, needs and interests of target audiences through timely and relevant consultation mechanisms.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate innovative stakeholder communication and engagement strategies and activities to ensure customers, the community and other stakeholders are engaged and informed and have opportunities to provide input.
  • Obtain input and monitor and report on stakeholder needs, interests and issues, and provide recommendations to support senior managers to identify and manage risks and ensure communication materials are relevant, appropriate and informative.
  • Maintain relationships across state and local government to identify opportunities for coordinated stakeholder engagement.
  • Draft and edit high quality communication materials within tight timeframes.
  • Monitor and evaluate stakeholder engagement and communication projects providing ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in systems, policy and process improvement initiatives to improve team operations.
  • Complete other duties under direction

Essential criteria:


  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and / or equivalent experience in the delivery of stakeholder and community engagement and communications.
  • Experience working in government, city planning or on other infrastructure projects or developments would be an advantage.
  • Experience managing multiple internal and external stakeholders and providing advice to senior management.
  • Understanding of relevant NSW planning requirements or the ability to quickly get up to speed.
  • Experience and ability to build relationships and influence outcomes.
  • Project delivery experience
  • An excellent communicator who can turn complex information into accessible and engaging formats.
  • Capacity to travel to outer suburban and regional locations, and to work outside of core business hours in the evening and on weekends
