The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) is currently seeking a Operational Data Analyst to assist with the effective querying of FWO data and the production of quality reports.


Note:
the Operational Data Analyst role is distinct from the Research and Data Analyst role that is currently advised.


About the Team


The Strategic Research, Analysis and Reporting team (SRAR) is responsible for the ongoing reporting, analysis and research requirements of the FWO.

It is the mission of the SRAR team to inform agency-wide decision making and assist the achievement of strategic objectives by providing high quality, accessible, reliable and meaningful analysis and research findings.

SRAR is responsible for producing accurate data and statistics that are used externally in many pieces of work including our Annual Report, Senate Estimates appearances and media.

SRAR has a reputation for excellence and reliability in the production of 'fit for purpose' data, analysis and statistics.


About the FWO
The FWO is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act 2009 (Fair Work Act).

Our functions outline the responsibilities we have as set by the Fair Work Act to achieve our purpose:

- provide education, assistance, advice and guidance to employers, employees, outworkers, outworker entities and organisations
- promote and monitor compliance with workplace laws
- inquire into and investigate breaches of the Fair Work Act
- take appropriate enforcement action
- perform our statutory functions efficiently, effectively, economically and ethically.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for employment with the FWO you must be an Australian citizen.

Typical Duties
The duties of an Operational Data Analyst include, however, are not limited to:

  • Contributing to the development and enhancement of the FWO's reporting capability
  • Contributing to activities aimed at improving the FWO's data quality and data practices
  • Contributing to the improvement of technical data literacy and knowledge within SRAR and the FWO
  • Assisting in ensuring high quality, consistent and timely reporting of operational data
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders to deliver reporting and analysis that meets business needs.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience using SQL in a Business Intelligence reporting setting.
  • Highly developed ability to work with and manipulate datasets using a range of software products including Excel and Tableau.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to write for a range of audiences.
  • Excellent organisational skills including the ability to manage competing work priorities to meet tight deadlines, and to work professionally to complete tasks as an individual and as a member of a team.
Additional desirable skills include the ability to manage a data project with limited supervision.
