Your Role:


The Accident & Health Underwriter is responsible for meeting production, underwriting, and profitability targets within the QLD Accident & Health Division (A&H) by underwriting new business, renewals, and endorsement changes based on underwriting guidelines and process flows issued by A&H.

In addition, the A&H Underwriter is expected to provide exceptional customer service to Chubb's producers and customers by maintaining relationships with an existing portfolio of producers while sourcing and growing new broker relationships.


Your Responsibilities:

Underwriting Quality and Expertise:_

  • Evaluate, accept, or decline new business, renewal business, and endorsement requests based on Chubb underwriting guidelines to ensure profitability and growth of the A&H portfolio
  • Achieve or exceed retention targets for renewals both on a premium and policy count basis
  • Achieve or exceed quality audit expectations and ensure thorough and accurate file documentation is upheld
  • Prepare referrals to senior underwriters, providing risk analysis, rating and recommendations
  • Play a key role in Peer Review audits as directed
  • Assist A&H Manager VIC/QLD in providing input on profit analysis, market, and environment analysis

Broker Relations and Service Delivery:_

  • Establish and maintain professional, strong, longterm working relationships with producers through regular scheduling and attendance of broker visitations
  • Where applicable, establish relationships with a set number of new producers (new meaning new to Chubb)
  • Monitor workloads and manage peak periods where required. i.e. seasonal business
  • Ensure all work processes align with and adhere to Chubb customer service expectations
  • Foster and promote a culture of excellence in service delivery through your communication and professionalism with internal and external stakeholders

Team Collaboration & Operational Efficiency:_

  • Solicit and share information on competitors pricing, product and selection criteria and suggest adjustments in business approach accordingly
  • Ensure that process improvements are effectively executed, and benefits realised
  • Assist peers and managers with product and business queries
  • Assist members of the Claims Department with any queries
  • Where required, assist in coordinating producer functions and events
  • Assist in general A&H Division matters as directed
  • Attend A&H Division meetings where required and provide accurate and clear feedback on matters relating to the division
  • Demonstrate ability to be a team player by actively participating in VIC Branch activities including crossselling and sales meetings with other product lines
  • Understand and utilise Chubb underwriting and workflow systems

  • Remain within set travel and entertainment budgets
  • Demonstrate good judgement in deployment of survey and audit resources
  • Meets agreed standards of productivity
  • Assist in premium collection and account queries for assigned producers

Your Skills & Experience

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • A solid understanding of the Accident & Health product suite
  • Strong negotiation and marketing skills
  • Developing leadership skills with ability to coach and train others
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of underwriting policy practice and policy documentation requirements, including terms and conditions as defined by industry regulations
  • Understanding the underwriting appetite of other departments
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint proficiency
  • Understanding of the insurance industry and Chubb's position in the market
