THE POSITION
Moreton Bay College is seeking suitably qualified and experienced teacher to teach Junior Science. A fixed-term, full-time role, to start ASAP or commencing Term 3.


All teachers are appointed by the CEO/Executive Principal of MBC and MBBC and are responsible to them through the Principal of MBC for the over-all performance of their duties.

The CEO/Executive Principal delegates authority to senior staff members for the effective management of the College. This role will report directly to the Heads of Department - Science.


The College offers a very broad programme in sporting, musical and pastoral activities which are designed to enhance the holistic development of the students.

Staff are expected to participate in the co-curricular programme of the College.

By participating in the College's co-curricular programme it is recognised that a teacher is contributing to the mission and ethos of the College.


All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of this Uniting Church day school for girls from PP-12.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Classroom Teacher is required to:_

General

  • Perform conscientiously and competently the duties, both teaching and nonteaching, assigned by the Head of College or Senior Staff delegate.
  • Cooperate with the Senior Staff in the organisation and management of the College.
  • Help foster good relations between parents, the community and the College.
  • Help promote a spirit of unity among the staff.
  • Be actively involved in supporting the College's cocurricular activities and special events.
  • Be positive in support of the College's rules, traditions and Christian ethos, both within the College and outside when the student is identifiable to the College.
  • Attend designated College functions.
  • Make routine checks of uniform and personal appearance of students.

Academic

  • Mark the roll each lesson and inform Student Services of unexplained absentees.
  • Prepare lesson objectives and outlines for lessons following work programme and syllabus guidelines.
  • Endeavour to keep abreast of pedagogical trends.
  • Be prompt in grading of all assessment items.
  • Set realistic times and dates for completion of homework and assignments.
  • Inspect homework for proper completion; make regular checks of Homework Diaries.
  • Prepare student folios for Parent/Teacher Evenings.
  • Attend Parent-TeacherStudent Conferences and Parent Information Evenings when required.
  • Report to parents when necessary at interview and through written reports.
  • Effectively monitor, assess and report on student performance including progressive online reporting and end of semester reports.
  • Respond to the needs of individual students.
  • Supervise classes of absent teachers when required.
  • Seek permission for excursions from the appropriate staff and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Manage student behaviour as per the College Behaviour Management Policy.

Professional Expectations

  • Read Staff Notices daily.
  • Attend meetings as per meeting schedule.
  • Notify the Secondary Daily Organiser in advance of any absence or by 6:30am on day of absence; work must be set for classes.
  • Be punctual and active in playground duty and bus duty.
  • Use the Staff Handbook to be informed of College procedures.
  • Adhere to MBC Positive Behaviours Policy.
  • Abide by the dress code as set down for staff at the College.
  • Attend Chapel, Assembly and House sessions weekly.
  • Participate in professional development activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Student Teachers where and when applicable.
  • Parent helpers where and when applicable.

FORM TEACHER DUTIES

  • The Form Teacher is required to_
  • Mark morning roll.
  • Read Daily Notices to the class at Form Meeting.
  • Make routine checks of uniform and personal appearance of students.
  • Make regular checks of Homework Diaries.
  • Get to know each student in the Form Class.
  • Liaise with the Head of House.
  • Attend House Meetings.
  • Actively support and promote House activities.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The Classroom Teacher needs to display the ability to_
  • Articulate a personal philosophy of learning.
  • A broad knowledge of the specific curriculum areas.
  • A broad knowledge of the specific curriculum development with respect to Australian Curriculum and the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).
  • Inspire, influence and motivate students.
  • Work collaboratively and productively with colleagues.
  • Provide challenging, studentcentred approaches to learning.
  • Communicate and interact openly and effectively with students, staff and parents.
  • Use technologies effectively in the teaching/learning programme.
