The Role
The Strategic Governance and Capability team is seeking APS5 officers to contribute to the success of our work.

As an officer in these teams, you will learn about the policy, program, and project work of the Workplace Relations (WR) Group in a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative environment.


As an APS6 in the Strategic Governance and Capability team, you would have the opportunity to provide strategic advice on and engage with governance arrangements, and support the way we work through contributing to projects that enable the use of project management, collaboration and other capability building tools.

Reporting to the Director of team, the Project Officer will be responsible for providing administration, research, coordination and planning assistance to support the work of the team.


Skills and Capabilities


We are looking for people with a strong policy-making background for the Strategic Policy team and with a strong change management framework for the Strategic Governance and Capability team.

You should be ready to work in a small, agile, fast-paced environment that is fun and supportive.


Desired skills include:

  • The ability to be flexible, highly motivated and contribute to the delivery of a challenging workload under often tight deadlines.
  • An ability to think strategically, including synthesising complex information and identifying effective solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to contribute and lead policy development.
  • Ability to clearly explain complex concepts, ideas, and arguments to a range of audiences.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong liaison skills, including an ability to quickly develop productive working relationships with staff at all levels, particularly with peers and senior management.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with others.
A background in workplace relations is not a necessity.

The Opportunity

This position is available to Ongoing Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and APS employees as a temporary transfer at level or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 6 months.
