We are looking for:

Byron Shire Council is currently seeking an Animal Education and Enforcement Officer.

This role is a great opportunity to provide regulatory and education service to the community to ensure a harmonious relationship between domestic animals and livestock, humans and the environment consistent with relevant legislation, Council policies and standard operating procedures.

The role will also provide support in community enforcement activities.


About you:


  • Demonstrated success in developing and delivering community communication and engagement projects aimed at facilitating widespread behavioural change.
  • Good working knowledge of Local Government Act and associated Regulations and the Companion Animals Act.
  • Demonstrated solid experience in animal care discipline, including ability to handle, care for, seize and impound companion animals and stock.
  • Demonstrated expertise in utilising SEINS (Self Enforcing Infringement Notices System) or the ability to rapidly acquire this.
  • Proven ability to deal with conflict in an effective manner to ensure good public relations.

We offer:


  • A term, fulltime position until 30 June 2024 (this is a grant funded position) (38 hours per fortnight/ 9 day fortnight)
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $1,515.10 to $1,755.47 per 38 hour week (dependent upon skills and experience)

This position is based at Mullumbimby however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
