Risk Advisor, Payments Settlements Department (Lead Analyst - Risk and Compliance)


As part of the Risk and Compliance team within Payments Settlements Department of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), the Risk Advisor will drive assurance and risk advisory initiatives within the department.

You will contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of risk management in Payments Settlements Department.

These activities will include the examination, evaluation and objective assessments on technology risks and controls, promoting operational resilience, and liaising with multiple teams (such as project teams and the Information Technology, Risk and Compliance and Internal Audit departments).

Experience and Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of assurance methodologies, controls, and risk management frameworks (including the three lines of accountability) and broad experience of implementing these at a financial institution.
  • Experience in the design and testing of internal controls to provide assurance that operational, technology, project, strategic and people risks are managed.
  • Support the improvement of risk management in the department by providing advice, expertise and support.
  • Experience in the management of thirdparty risks, business continuity management and operational resilience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, information technology, risk, compliance or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Your team

You will be a key member of the Risk and Compliance team in Payments Settlements Department. This team consists of risk analysts reporting to the Manager, Risk and Compliance.

The team supports Payments Settlements Department to ensure that the risks associated with operating a critical financial market infrastructure, and the Bank's own settlements, are well understood and managed.


The Payments Settlements Department is responsible for the ongoing development and operation of the Reserve Bank Information and Transfer System (RITS), Australia's real-time gross settlement system.

RITS settles over $200 billion of transactions per day, including high‐value payments, wholesale financial market transactions, New Payments Platform transactions, and obligations arising from retail and other payment systems.

The department is also responsible for the back-office settlement of transactions arising from the Bank's open market operations and reserves management trades.
