Your new team:


Orygen Specialist Programs (OSP), a program of Melbourne Health, provides specialist mental health services for young people aged 15 to 25 and focuses on providing early intervention to young people with severe and complex mental illness.


  • The Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings including the Parkville and Malmsbury sites.

Your new role:

The Mental Health Clinician (Custodial FYMHS) provides clinical assessments, formulation and treatment to young people in youth justice custody.

Appropriate discharge planning and age-appropriate referrals also need to take place once the young people transition back into the community.


  • The Mental Health Clinician is involved in consultation and liaison with the young person's care team and other key stakeholders. You'll work collaboratively and feel very supported by our experienced and skilled allied health team & medical staff and engage with our keystakeholders from youth justice (YJ) and other service providers (CCA & Caraniche).
  • The role is embedded within the Orygen Custodial FYMHS team and is currently based at either the Parkville or Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct. As such, travel to the workplace destination is included within the working hours.
  • The Mental Health Clinician role focuses on providing high level consultation, leadership and advice on complex clinical matters and is expected to have advanced knowledge of and experience regarding the mental health sector. For referrals to be accepted by the Custodial FYMHS team, the young person must be resident at a Youth Justice Custodial Precinct (Parkville or Malmsbury)

About You:


  • This is a multidisciplinary role and is open to Grade 2 or 3 Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Psychologists, and Grade 3 or 4_
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurses_
  • Relevant registration and qualifications
  • Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is desirable.
