The Co-ordinator Compliance & Regulatory Services is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of the Compliance and Regulatory Services teams within Council, with a view to achieving Council's Vision pertaining to regulation, compliance, and excellent customer service outcomes.

  • Principal Certifying Authority (PCA) experience or registered building surveyor IS A MUST
  • Local Government Council Experience is highly desirable

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate and supervise a team of regulatory professionals, providing direction, coaching, and support to achieve team goals. Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement;
  • To ensure planning and regulatory compliance matters in consultation with the Manager Environment, Sustainability and Compliance and instigate legal proceedings as required including; Building Information Certificates, Fire Safety Inspections, Swimming Pool Inspections and other building compliance related activities.
  • Ensure an effective regulatory and development compliance presence across Council, including appropriate rostering, filling vacancies and identification of team priorities;
  • Develop and implement strategies and plans for enforcing council regulations and policies, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards. Monitor and evaluate enforcement activities, providing feedback and implementing corrective measures as required;
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including other council departments, law enforcement agencies, community groups, and the public. Respond to enquiries, resolve conflicts, and promote positive engagement to enhance community safety and satisfaction.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices, legislative changes, and emerging trends to ensure the Regulatory and Compliance team operate within their legislative delegations. This includes contributing to the development and review of council policies, procedures, and guidelines related to enforcement activities, and making recommendations for improvement;
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports, records, and documentation related to enforcement activities, team performance, and compliance issues. This may include providing evidence in court. Ensure compliance with council policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;
  • Operate within the team's budget and use resources efficiently, including team rostering, equipment, and supplies. In liaison with the Manager, identify resource gaps and seek opportunities for cost savings and process efficiencies;
  • Attend to and investigate reported (or Council audited) cases of noncompliance matters related to the regulatory functions of Council, gather evidence, and initiate legal action in accordance with legislative and Council requirements.
