Role Details:

The Head of Aerodynamics will lead aerodynamics strategy, people and projects through the ACSA to deliver best practice aerodynamics performance engineering to deliver credible gains in athlete performance at the highest levels of sport.

By interpreting trends and developing understanding, the role will be responsible for creating innovative engineering solutions to real problems and make a tangible contribution to Australian sport, both on and off the field.

The Head of Aerodynamics is employed and directly managed by SASI and will maintain a close connection with the Australian Institute of Sport as a funding and delivery partner of the ACSA.


Special Conditions:


  • The Incumbent will be required to participate in the department's Performance Management Program.
  • The Incumbent may be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.
  • Some work outside of normal hours may be required.
  • This role requires a working with children check.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Postgraduate qualification in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or other related field.

About the Department:


The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) is the lead agency for the Government's policy on sport and active recreation.

ORSR is responsible for State Government policy and legislation as it relates to the sector, its key programs, sport and recreation infrastructure and funding programs.

The ORSR supports sport and recreation organisations, Councils and the community through the development of policy, programs and resources, the provision of funding, recreation and sport planning, infrastructure development, elite sport pathways and programs, and the promotion of physical activity.


About the Business:


The
South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) is a division of ORSR and conducts sports programs and athlete scholarship programs to identify, develop and support talented athletes to represent Australia and achieve at the highest levels internationally.

SASI provides access to the highest quality training environments, technologies and facilities as well as supporting its athletes and programs with a comprehensive suite of world class performance service providers.

SASI will relocate to a new purpose-built high-performance facility in mid 2024.


The
Australian Centre for Sports Aerodynamics (ACSA), due for completion in January 2024, is a state-of-the-art, low speed, open-jet, open-return wind tunnel created to deliver world's best sports aerodynamic testing, analysis, service, and science.

The ASCA is a SASI facility and program with significant investment from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

This nationally focused facility has been designed and constructed to support the objectives of high-performance sport in Australia prioritising performance success at Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games.
