In this role you will:
- undertake legal, policy and economic research and analysis to inform regulatory reforms to the Victorian energy sector, with a strong focus on improving outcomes for consumers
- support drafting guidelines, standards, reports, consultation papers and commission decisions
- support stakeholder consultation and engagement processes.


The regulatory reform adviser undertakes policy, legal and economic research and analysis to inform regulatory reforms to the Victorian energy sector.

Making effective energy regulation is crucial to support a fair and equitable transition of Victoria's energy system to net-zero emissions.

It is more important than ever for Victorian energy regulations to meet the technological and policy changes facing the sector.

Reforms are especially important to support the rapidly transforming energy sector, particularly for retailers, distributors and transmission companies.

Households and businesses are changing the way they use electricity and gas networks, there is a growing need for new transmission networks in Victoria, and consumer-focussed rules for energy retailing continue to be crucial for building trust in the market.

The Essential Services Commission is Victoria's independent economic regulator of essential services supplied by a range of industries.


The commission's functions include:
- making regulatory decisions with respect to prescribed industries (including price determinations, licensing, customer protection and access disputes).
- undertaking reviews and providing advice to Ministers on a range of economic and regulatory matters.
