The Role

Directorate Policing and Security Navy is looking for an APS4 Security Advisor to provide expert security advice and compliance requirements with relation to both Personnel and Physical Security, to various stakeholders.

You will be accountable for organising your workflow, making decisions within defined parameters relating to areas of responsibility, seeking guidance where required.

You may exercise some discretion with respect to how legislation, procedures and guidelines are interpreted and applied to your work.

You will be required to undertake some research and analysis activities.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate their ability to undertake the key duties of this role being:

  • Provide Security advice/ assist to the Director Policing and Security
  • Navy Management team and ESA with business decisions.
  • Program and analyse reports on Navy security compliance.
  • Assist Staff Officer, Events and Personnel Security in the creation and implementing of personnel security policy, sponsorship and doctrine.
  • Assist the Staff Officer, Security Operations in the creation and implementation of Physical Security policy, audits and doctrine.
  • Answer moderately complex protective security inquiries to assist stakeholders.
  • Management and maintenance of Positive Vetting level clearances on behalf of Navy.
  • Management and maintaining Security Operation documentation and database.
  • Research and collect data and information to draft routine reports, publications, papers and submissions.

About our Team
You will be part of a small blended team consisting of ADF and APS members. Your team will examine the latest and emerging military platforms and systems across the maritime domain.

You will play a vital role in ensuring that Navy's future platforms, capabilities and sensitive technologies are delivered without compromise with a superior level of security assurance.


Working to the Director of Policing and Security - Navy (DPS-N), the role is part of a team providing strategic level advice on policing and security matters.

To succeed in this role, applicants will be required to demonstrate:

  • Initiative and judgement in undertaking activities requiring attention to detail.
  • Working within legislation, policy and procedures.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a small, high performing team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a security workplace and to handle sensitive matters discreetly and:
  • Demonstrated experience building and sustaining effective relationships with senior executives and stakeholders
  • While not required, understanding or the ability to quickly obtain an understanding of the Defence Security Principle Framework (DSPF) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) in relation to how it relates to Security would be an advantage.
