Agency Purpose


The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The Team


The AEC has a dispersed network of 151 electoral divisions, 39 of which are located across Victoria including a State Office in the Melbourne CBD and several single and multi-divisional office sites across the state.

There is currently the Service Support Officers vacancy in Moorabbin, Ringwood, Carrum Downs, Geelong and Werribee. The Service Officers will support the Team Leader and work alongside a small dynamic team.


For the delivery of federal elections or other federal electoral events, staffing rapidly expands to help manage the increased workload around risk management, fast-moving project work and logístical activities, media and public scrutiny.


The Opportunities


We are seeking versatile and energetic people to undertake a range of administrative functions in areas of enrolment and election management, and project management and delivery.


You will provide frontline client services to members of the public, including answering enquiries on and assisting with electoral enrolment.

During an event the Service Support Officer may be required to supervise a small team as well as provide training to aid in the delivery of planned activities.


The functions may also include processing special categories of enrolment and contributing to the planning and project management of key election activities leading the delivery of a number of projects, ensuring communication flows seamlessly and accurately to the Team Leader.


The Service Support Officer positions (APS 2) are part time during core business periods and move to full time during an electoral event.
