The Regional Programs Branch is part of the Regional Development and Local Government Division within the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.

The Branch delivers grant programs to regional economies via local councils, non-profits and other non-government entities - supporting small community organisations to investing in transformative infrastructure projects.

Our Legacy Programs Section is seeking agile, self-motivated, and results-driven people to help deliver key programs and provide support that will be critical to the programs' success.

This section is responsible for moderately complex grant management and stakeholder engagement with grantees for in-house and grants-hub-delivered programs.

You will need to be able to operate under limited direction, making independent decisions within your area of responsibility and have some public contact with varied tasks.


Your tasks may include:

  • Provide highlevel support and advice to your Director on operational policy and human resources matters
  • Everyday management of a team of five to ten people, responsible for grant program management, providing guidance, developing staff capability, allocation of work and performance management
  • Engage with delivery partners and manage relationships to achieve program and grant delivery targets, including the review and monitoring of service schedule arrangements
  • Work with other team leaders to manage governance, quality assurance and records management activities across the Branch
  • Develop and maintain program plans and strategies
  • Draft briefings and ministerial correspondence
  • Contribute to program implementation and governance, delivery of grants, including risk assessment and risk management activities
  • High quality reporting on program funding, program outputs, program objectives, and individual projects, for senior executives.

Who are we looking for?


We are looking for a strong leader and manager, with program or grant management expertise or similar transferrable skills, who thrives working in a fast-paced, high-pressure small team environment.

To be successful in this role, you will have:


  • Commitment to collaboration and positive engagement with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in leading and managing a team, using initiative and judgement to achieve outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to negotiate successful outcomes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to construct a clear argument or direction
  • Attention to detail and accuracy ensuring your team deliver high quality work
  • Excellent prioritisation skills to deliver timely results and manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
Experience with the management, assessment and delivery of grant programs is highly desirable. Previous experience working in the public sector will be also highly regarded.
