About the Role

The Student Welfare Officer provides a service that is intrinsically a part of the core business of the School on this continuum of Pastoral Care.

In this context the role contributes to the mission of CECG by the provision of a Pastoral Care support services to school communities in order to promote and foster the wellbeing and welfare, successful school engagement and development of all students, and to work collaboratively with other staff and parents in achieving this.

Essential Criteria

Demonstrate a sound understanding of and commitment to the Church's mission in Catholic Education and the capacity to contribute to the spiritual and community life of the school.
Demonstrate relevant/essential educational qualifications for appointment in a NSCSWP role as per NSCSWP guidelines (i.e. completed qualifications at Certificate 4 level in Youth Work or Pastoral Care or an equivalent or higher qualification in a related field e.g. nursing, policing, social work or teaching). In some instances, e.g. depending on the registration status of a qualified person, equivalency of qualifications will need to be determined by CE in collaboration with the Australian Government. Such equivalency will be determined on a casebycase basis as needed.
Demonstrate successful experience in a school and /or welfare role deemed relevant to a schoolbased role in a school student wellbeing team.
Demonstrate well developed interpersonal and communication skills including an appreciation of the need to maintain professional confidentiality.
Capacity to work effectively in a productive and dynamic setting as part of the school's wellbeing team.
Demonstrate excellent professional work practices eg maintaining records/summaries of work plans and schedules; and organisational skills that create supportive and safe environments including managing challenging student behaviours and meeting a variety of learning needs.
Knowledge of contemporary student wellbeing issues in the school setting and an awareness of community resources available to students/families.
Eligibility for meeting NSCSWP registration requirements (including mandatory police check procedures).
Be a proactive member of a professional learning community complying with the legal, administrative and professional requirements, engaging positively with colleagues, students and parents.
Demonstrate a willingness to contribute towards the wider school community, in order to build and strengthen school's relationship with parents, parish and the community.
