The Role:


Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will ensure the reliability and regular maintenance of the paper machine within budgeted cost expenditure and that the operation of the paper machines are optimised.


Essential to your success will be maintaining a strong working relationship with production and maintenance departments to collaboratively ensure plant safety, quality and performance outcomes are achieved.

Additionally you will manage capital projects, project management and be responsible for compliance, with appropriate statutory requirements as you develop and discuss new maintenance ideas with the Operations Manager, Supervisors, Engineering personnel and Maintenance Contractors.

Further to this, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Achieve and improve on repair and maintenance of the paper machine
  • Plan and organise resources/ raw materials/ spare parts/ supplies for jobs and scheduled maintenance
  • Analyse data and troubleshoot complex mechanical problems to develop short to medium term plans and solutions to optimise paper production and ensure competitiveness in the market
  • Liaise with production to plan, schedule and organise maintenance shuts every 6 weeks and attend daily production meetings to discuss repair works, improvements and shuts
  • Communicate any major machine changes to the production team
  • Supervise, delegate and coordinate responsibilities to engineering personnel and contractors.
  • Ensure all appropriate actions are taken to implement and maintain the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental policy, procedures and legislative requirements.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Experience Supervising or Managing a Maintenance and/or Engineering team
  • Pulp & Paper industry experience highly regarded, but not mandatory
  • Alternatively, exposure to a 24/7 manufacturing or processing environment would be an ideal fit
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills with a high level of initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence
  • Flexibility for oncall (rostered)
