We are seeking both technical leaders and technical specialists.


For applicants seeking leadership roles, ideally you would have demonstrated 5+ years' experience in any of the fields below with a passion to teach and mentor junior staff.

Your critical-thinking skills and ability to join-the-dots will serve you well.

ASIO is seeking to fill positions across a wide range of technical teams, including:

  • Field operational staff: Responsible for the deployment of ASIO's technical capabilities in-field to enable overt or covert digital data acquisition.
  • Online operational staff: Responsible for the online deployment of ASIO technical capabilities in order to achieve digital collection outcomes.
  • Digital forensics specialists: Responsible for the acquisition and analysis of a range of electronic devices using commercial and bespoke tools in a field, lab or office environment.

  • Software Engineers: Responsible for the development, testing and integration of bespoke capabilities tailored to ASIO's unique digital intelligence collection functions.
  • Electronics and

Communications Engineers:
Responsible for design, development, fabrication, reverse engineering and vulnerability research of bespoke electronics and communications systems.

  • Embedded

Software Engineers:
Responsible for design, development, implementation, reverse engineering and vulnerability research in machine languages and other embedded software.

  • Operational Infrastructure Engineers: Responsible for the design and implementation of our secure delivery network and systems in support of ASIO digital intelligence collection operations.

In these roles you will:


  • Lead a team of technology specialists.
  • Seek out and implement continuous improvement, champion the adoption of good practices and ensure appropriate alignment to preferred patterns and architecture.
  • Be accountable for maintaining a high standard in technical outcomes and advice.
  • Drive the delivery of outcomes by collaborating and communicating with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally, including with international counterparts.
  • Manage all aspects of ICT assets under your responsibility including budget, licensing, procurement and contracts.
  • Provide mentoring and support for the staff within your team.

Key attributes

  • Vulnerability Research, Threat Intelligence and/or Malware Analysis.
  • Cyber and information security concepts and implementation.
  • Cellular (Core and protocol experience) and noncellular (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and related ISM) networks.
  • Software and hardware development, testing, integration and/or deployment including experience in Continuous Integration/Continuous Development and DevOps concepts.
  • Reverse Engineering (Software and/or Hardware).
  • Forensics digital, computer, mobile, network and/or malware.
  • System, network & storage administration, design and/or architecture including crossdomain solutions and concepts.
  • Cloud skills, including system build automation.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the role, you must be:

  • An Australian citizen.
  • Assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance at the highest level.
