About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Ship Margins Manager to join our Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) Program undertaken by the DDG Capability Enhancement Integration Project (CEIP), reporting to the DCE Platform Systems Engineering Lead.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.

You will be responsible ensuring that the projects within the Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) Program are managed and compliant with the Whole of Ship (WoS) margins of the Hobart Class Frigates.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Track margins categories, by establishing baselines, registers and calculators for projects within the program including weight, stability, electrical power generation and distribution, HVAC and chilled water, structural margins and space.
  • Understand the impact to margins of each project and provide support to the DDG Principal Engineer with planning for future margins growth of the Hobart Class post DCE upgrade.
  • Development, review and endorsement of technical risks associated with engineering changes within the parameters of your engineering delegation.
  • Manage and coordinate efforts to remediate margins issues to ensure that the project can be included with the DCE Scope.
  • Collaborate with DDG Capability Life Cycle Management (CLCM) Margins Manager and establish common Working Groups to report progress of DCE margins management activities.
  • Obtain and maintain relevant Engineering delegations from the Commonwealth.
About YOU

  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline such as Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or equivalent with Chartered Professional Engineer status (preferred)
  • Significant experience in a Naval Architecture related role that has provided exposure to some of the tasks listed in the opportunity section or similar
  • Familiarity with current rules and regulations on ship design and operation
  • Demonstrated understanding of:
  • Ship stability and margins;
  • Ship Ballast Management and optimisation;
  • Structural design considering sea going loads, fatigue, shock and vibration loads;
  • Mechanical, HVAC and electrical systems of a ship and their consumption of various limited resources of a ship.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team environment or autonomously
  • Ability to partner with, and maintain, relationships with key stakeholders to obtain the necessary deliverables
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NV1 and relevant Export Control clearances;
