Description

Newcastle Harness Racing Club is the second largest club in NSW conducting approximately 70 harness race meetings each year as well as weekly trials.

In addition, the Club hosts a variety of functions and events at the Paceway including corporate and social events.


The successful applicant will continue the strong progress of Newcastle Harness Racing Club and will manage the racing operations and oversee the business operations in collaboration with the Finance Manager and Business Development Manager.

The General Manager will work effectively with, and be responsible to, the Chairman and Board of Directors of the Club.


To be considered for the position you will have the ability to forge effective working relationships at all levels including industry bodies, industry participants, sponsors and members.


Excellent leadership, communication, organisational and management skills are essential as well as knowledge of and genuine interest in the harness racing industry.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Attendance at race meeting & trials
  • Liaison with Harness Racing NSW in relation to nominations and race programmes
  • Asset management & compliance track equipment, building & grounds infrastructure and liaison with service providers
  • Managing full time, part time & casual staff
  • Administration tasks, including accounting, compliance, membership, lease & licensing, oversee IT
  • Preparation of Board Meeting agendas & minutes and attend Board Meetings, compliance for AGM
  • Liaison with industry participants including owners, trainers, drivers
  • Approved Manager of Liquor Licence
  • Company Secretary
  • Drive new sponsorship opportunities whilst maintaining existing stakeholder relationships
  • Organisation of recruitment processes
To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • An understanding of the harness racing industry


  • Competent computer skills

  • Microsoft Office and Outlook, MYOB
  • Outstanding written communication skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to multitask
  • Clear and confident communicator
  • Ability to work independently and cohesively within a small team
  • Current Responsible Service of Alcohol accreditation
  • Current Provide First Aid accreditation
