The Role

The Data Analyst is accountable under broad direction to undertake complex procedural, operational, administrative and business support activities within an integrated workforce.

They will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence's mission and business objectives.


A Data Analyst will use their initiative and experience to research, analyse, plan, review and adjust priorities and work activities to assist in the delivery of a range of complex and interrelated procedural, operational, administrative, and business support functions across Defence.

They will undertake objective, systematic analysis and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence providing detailed technical, professional, and procedural advice.


  • Consolidate and analyse data and information, and contribute to the preparation of written submissions, briefs, inquiry outcomes, corporate reports, minutes and other correspondence for Defence and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake statistical analyses and contribute to the preparation of technical reports and data dashboards.
  • Prioritise and progress work to meet business objectives, recommend solutions for issues impacting on the achievement of desired outcomes and seek advice and guidance on more complex issues.
  • Be accountable for accurate completion of work within time critical deadlines to support the delivery of procedural, operational, administrative, and business support activities across Defence.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot reports and dashboards in Power Bi to provide insights and meet reporting requirements.
  • Conduct data analytics checks to ensure data is accurate and reliable.
  • Build and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, Defence personnel and team members.

About our Team

The Joint Transition Authority (JTA) offers a broad range of programs and services to prepare Defence members and families to manage all stages of transition.

The JTA works to promote integration, synchronisation and assurance of transition policy and practice across whole-of-government to build a simpler and more connected transition system.


The Data Analyst team is responsible for the collection and analysis of data, consolidating and synthesising feedback of data collected through Defence HR systems, the ADF Post Transition Survey, workforce reports all which deliver the statistical reporting to JTA.

Information is prepared for dissemination of data and analytics to a broad range of stakeholders to improve Post Transition outcomes for ADF Members through assurance activities and improved service delivery.

This is integral to the evaluation and improvement of transition support for ADF members.

  • Australian Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 Clearance.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office specifically Excel and Word.
  • Experience with Power BI.
  • Exceptional levels of attention to detail.
  • Experience in research, data analysis and/or reporting.
  • Capable of working with a wide variety of customers and stakeholders.
  • Highly organised and proven ability working to tight deadlines.
  • Analytical and problemsolving ability.
  • Effective writing and presentation skills.
  • High degree of integrity and confidentiality.
