The Role

The Warehousing & Distribution section is a small team positioned in the Directorate of Warehousing & Distribution Services (DWDS) within the Joint Logistics Command Supply Chain Branch.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex logistics inventory and asset management within an integrated workforce.
  • Contribute to various logistics management activities to provide support to units and operations within Defence.
  • Participate in the review and development of policies, procedures and processes for logistics management.
  • Assist response in providing responses to enquiries from the Joint Logistics Unit (JLU) network and other contract management issues as they arise.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with team members, Industry Partners and the broader JLU network.
  • Assess and recommend mitigation strategies for the risks associated with contract management activities, supplier's performance and compliance with mandatory requirements and suggest relevant improvement.
  • Interpret and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Seek and act on feedback from supervisor to confirm agreed performance.
  • Monitor and manage contract administration tasks, performance and risks against the contract and contribute to implementing appropriate action.


You will need to demonstrate flexibility and agility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment and to realign resourcing requirements to meet new demands when necessary.


About our Team

Supply Chain Branch (SCB) is an integrated team of military, civilians (APS) and contractors who contribute to the JLC mission of enabling Australian Defence Force (ADF) operations and readiness through adaptive, effective and efficient military logistics.

SCB provides Defence-led warehousing, distribution, maintenance and support services via national and international logistics services contracts delivered by Industry Partners in support of ADF operations and activities.


While the number of logistics services contracts can vary according to what our Defence customers' need, typically SCB manages around 13 contracts supporting Defence on a national and international basis.

Our workforce is located in all states and territories across Australia, as well as internationally. The Directorate of Warehousing & Distribution Services supports SCB in achieving the above.

The successful applicant will provide support to the current Warehousing & Distribution contract management team.


This is a role in which you will have a high level of stakeholder engagement both within and external to SCB.

You will accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex logistics and contract management tasks within an integrated workforce.

You will need to work independently whilst contributing as an effective team member.

You will also need to have sound interpersonal, communication, negotiation and liaison skills and understand the needs of our stakeholders to produce outcomes and results in support of contractual obligations.

The skills, experience and attributes we are looking for include:

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills for range of documentation types for stakeholders, both within and external to Defence.
  • The ability to build and sustain productive relationships with others both across the branch and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage allocated resources, set work area priorities, manage workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
  • An ability to work constructively under limited direction, including setting priorities.
  • Strong understanding of Defence Logistics Policies.
  • Outcomefocused mindset with an ability to get practical results.
  • Be a team player and be adaptable, supportive and considerate with all staff.
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail.
