Description

The Principal Policy Officer works closely with the senior management team to provide leadership on strategic policy development and stakeholder management for the department's reform agenda.

You will also be seeking opportunities to influence the development of whole-of-government policy that supports departmental objectives and deliver policy development projects dealing with complex economic policy issues.


The key duties and responsibilities are:

  • Provide timely, high-level, and expert advice on complex cross-departmental strategic reform, policy issues and related service innovation opportunities across the department, including the mining sector, land administration and data and digital reforms. Identify and analyse issues of importance relevant to the department's strategic reform agenda. Develop, manage and/or oversee projects and provide leadership and direction to deliver policy outcomes consistent with the Queensland Government's strategic priorities. Work collaboratively and negotiate with colleagues, government, industry, and non-government organisations to achieve policy outcomes and deliver on project implementation requirements. Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of reports on complex issues, policy submissions, briefing notes, legislation, presentations, speeches, publications, and correspondence for consideration by executive management, the Director General, the Minister and other senior government officials. Conduct and coordinate substantial high-level research and analysis on a range of policy issues in the resources portfolio and the wider economic development space that identifies key opportunities, constraints, and risks. Exercise judgement, authority and high-level influence to effectively coordinate the management of divisional requirements and competing organisational priorities. Actively contribute to a high performing team to make sound policy decisions in a complex environment. Other duties as directed and required.
