Your opportunity
The Financial Control Manager is a significant finance control and leadership role within Group Finance & Strategy.


The role will be responsible for the delivery of accurate and timely financial performance reporting for the Platforms and Enabling Functions and the development and maintenance of strong financial controls.

The role will build strong relationships with the Head of Finance, Financial Control Finance Managers and with other Group Finance & Strategy teams to drive the Australian Unity finance transformation agenda and provide outstanding and inspiring leadership to the immediate team and broader Finance community.

Your key accountabilities will include (but not limited to);

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely actual results on a monthly basis.
  • Review/ provide commentary of P&L and balance sheet for Corporate Services and Operating Expenses and liaise with Commercial Finance.
  • Partner with the Commercial Finance team to ensure financial reporting frameworks and infrastructure are set up to meet their requirements;
  • Oversee the reconciliation of financial data from underlying business systems to general ledger;
  • Oversee maintenance of predominantly expense related general ledger reconciliations for the Platforms and Enabling Functions;
  • Oversee the postings of required adjustment journals including accruals and provisions
  • Lead appropriate challenge of current processes such as accruals, provisions, revaluations and other revenue and expense recognition
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors
  • Oversee the input of budgets and forecasts for the Platforms and Enabling functions based through collaboration with the Commercial Finance & Strategy team;
  • Support with the preparation of Quarterly and Annual regulatory reporting to regulators
  • Review Statutory Accounts for Group entities
  • Assist AU Tax with tax compliance matters; monthly BAS review and Annual Income Tax Return, FBT Support Finance & Strategy in driving balance sheet efficiencies within Group entities
  • Build effective and healthy partnering relationships with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of reporting and forecasting processes;
  • Role model the aspired Leadership behaviors to source, lead, develop and retain high quality team members aligned to the Australian Unity culture

About you

Your expertise and qualifications will include:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification coupled with Membership of a recognised accounting body (CA or CPA qualified)
  • Demonstrated experience in financial and/or management accounting, ideally with experience gained within system processes, variance analysis, reconciliations, issue resolution and process improvement;
  • Sound understanding of forecasting & budgeting
  • Advanced Excel skills and computer literate in a range of financial software and accounting packages (e.g. TM1, SUN, Blackline)
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and management
