The Role:


What's the role?
The Tax Advisor is a key role for Shell Australia based in Perth.

In this position you will be responsible for providing specialist tax advice to ensure adequate and proactive responses to business opportunities and risk.

Includes collaboration with other tax functional areas (indirect tax, employment tax).

Some of the key deliverables and responsibilities of this role are:

  • Identify and resolve technical problems by facilitating the resolution of problems individually or as part of a cross-functional team and serve as first management line of escalation and resolution of issues.
  • Develop and implement value enhancing Direct tax strategies for the businesses and its existing and future activities.
  • Interact with Global and Regional teams to ensure crossborder issues are properly executed.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in country tax advice and structuring, including knowledge sharing with fellow team members (both onshore & offshore).
  • Monitor developments and changes in Australia direct tax and ensure businesses are being properly advised and implemented.
  • Collaborate with the Tax Operations Manager and Tax Lead to ensure all aspects of planning and advice are properly considered in the return and reporting process which includes actively supporting period end compliance, audit and SOX processes and authority reviews.
  • Proactively engage with the business to ensure tax information is disseminated and tax issues are understood, sufficient to identify business changes/issues impacting tax.
  • Establish and maintain good working relations within Shell and the Tax Community.

What we need from you
To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Broad experience in business taxation working for multinational business, or a professional firm.
  • Recognised professional qualification and member of a recognized accounting or legal professional body.
  • Effective communicator of complex tax issues; both written and oral.
  • Effective at establishing and utilizing external relationships and contacts for the benefit of Shell.
  • Strong negotiation skills and effective at influencing others within and outside of Shell.
  • Ability to evaluate tax risks, balance risk with Business objectives, and make recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate, and supportive of the Business.
  • Comfortable reviewing the impact of tax on project economics and financial modelling.


Crucial to the success of this role is the ability to work collaboratively and lead effectively across multi-functional teams and interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, based in various locations, and being able to work autonomously.
