Role:


The Allied Health Assistant will work under the delegation and supervision of an allied health professional, taking on less complex treatment, tasks and performing administrative tasks that would otherwise reduce the time available for more complex direct care by more highly trained practitioners.

Initially the role will directly align to speech pathology however may in the future involve other allied health disciplines. Professional development in key aspects of the role will be provided.

Days are negotiable with a minimum of 2 days weekly preferred. This represents a great opportunity for a Speech Pathology student.


Responsibilities:


Role and Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of Alternative and Augmentative communication.
  • Facilitate intervention sessions and programs (individual or group) under guidance of a Speech Pathologist or Occupational therapist.
  • Assists with the supervision of students when required (playground, excursions)
  • Provide support at Mealtimes.
  • Assist in providing Literacy programs/intervention.
  • Create and manage resources for the Allied Health Team
  • Complete administration tasks as directed by a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist
  • Document observations and collect data under guidance of allied health professionals.
  • Update and follow work plan as discussed with Senior SP/OT
  • Communicate with allied health professionals regarding student progress, sessions, intervention strategies and feedback.
  • Create and manage therapy resources for classrooms as directed by Therapists.
  • File notes and other documents in paper or electronic file
  • Complete general tidy up and inventory of therapy spaces
  • Support staff in collecting and alighting students at bus time.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and deliver of therapy equipment.
  • Setup/pack up equipment for programs/sessions
  • Attend team meetings as necessary.
  • Work within the policies and procedures of JSS.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Communicate directly to the supervising Therapist. Reports issues, discuss complex cases and queries with the supervising therapist.
  • Promote a safe and supportive school environment by following safe work practices and OH&S requirements.

Who May Apply:


Essential pre-requisite skills

  • Evidence supporting enrolment in a degree bachelor masters in Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy or other Allied Health
  • Experience, /Interest working with students with autism.
  • Working with Children¿s Check
