The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and highly organised Volunteer Team Lead to join our Volunteers' team in this ongoing APS Level 5 position.
As one of Sydney's most visited museums, the Australian National Maritime Museum shares our national maritime story across Australia and the world, online, onsite and through research, presentations and travelling exhibitions, and provides must-visit museum experiences that delight and inspire.

The Museum welcomes over 2.5 million local, interstate and international visitors annually, and is supported by a thriving and passionate staff, membership, volunteer and education base.
This position is responsible for actively engaging with the Museums current and potential volunteers, who are critical to the successful delivery of many of the Museum's programs.
High level overview of accountabilities:
- Leading, coaching, and developing members of the Volunteers' Team. Setting the work direction, goals and roster for the team ensuring resources are managed within budget.
- Assisting and supporting the Volunteers Manager and the programs team to develop and maintain successful and wellmanaged volunteer programs.
- Ensuring volunteers are well looked after, trained, supported, recognised and rewarded, supervised and are adequately debriefed.
- Facilitating and designing effective and engaging training to support learning outcomes, ensuring continued improvement and quality of information in alignment with the Museum's vision, purpose and values.
- Assisting in organising corporate volunteering events, gatherings and excursions.
- Seek opportunities to promote volunteering at the Museum, including promoting the Museum's volunteering opportunities across different platforms, designing, scheduling and delivering the Museum's external volunteer information sessions and coordinating with volunteer networks to increase awareness.
- Working closely with various stakeholders to develop and maintain ongoing relationships, and promoting the Museum.
- Ensuring the financial revenue targets allocated to the Volunteers' section are met.
Selection Criteria:
- Experience in managing the volunteer life cycle in a museum or cultural institution.
- Certificate IV in Coordination of volunteer programs, degree in a related field or 5 years relevant work experience.
- Intermediate MS Office, publishing programs and database skills.
- Effective written and verbal English language communication skills and have the ability to communicate effectively with nonEnglish speaking individuals.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills and able to work independently or with limited supervision.
- Familiarity with the Australian National Standards for Volunteer Involvement.
- Experience in working with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds.
