Position Description
We are looking for a skilled Joiner / Cabinetmaker to join our team of talented makers.

The right person has the skills to produce high quality custom designed furniture, bench tops and entry doors from our beautiful recycled Australian Hardwoods.

Principle Responsibilities

• Planning jobs from drawings
• Making high quality bench tops, entry doors, tables, furniture and custom joinery from recycled timber
• Filling and finishing with natural plant based products
• Working well as part of the team and supervising apprentices as required

Core Skills

• Read and understand plans and drawings.
• Competent with jointer, thicknesser, panel saw, thickness sander, spindle moulder, mortiser and tenoner.
• Competent with woodworking power tools.
• Good skills on (and able to sharpen razor sharp) hand planes and chisels.
• Able to plan physical work safely and take good care of yourself.
• Good communication skills.
• Positive problem solving attitude.
• Good arithmetic.
• Knowledge of Australian hardwood timber species.
• Clear handwriting.

Solid skills and good experience in the above areas is a requirement of the position.


Key Relationships

You will be working closely with the Joinery Manager who will be assigning jobs, giving training on our work methods and machinery, and working with you to make sure you reach our quality and productivity standards.

Our design and sales team will be asking for input to help improve designs and improve our build efficiency.


Working Conditions

Thor's Hammer has recently moved to a new premise in Griffith ACT (on the edge of Fyshwick) and created a state of the art joinery workshop.

Most of our machinery is German Martin brand and is very accurate, safe and quiet. We have also recently installed a Biesse 5 axis CNC.

Recycled hardwoods are dense and heavy and working with them requires you to be strong and in good physical condition.

We have plenty of trolleys, pallet jacks, racks and rollers designed to make moving these timbers around safe and reduce fatigue.

For finishing we use a great German, natural oil based finish called Osmo. It is approved food safe and safe for children's toys when dry. Most of our filling is done with a plant based epoxy resin.

In the joinery team at Thor's Hammer there is a good mix of work - from making bench tops to custom made cabinetry, doors and fine furniture - all in solid recycled timber.

Remuneration
Pay range is from $30 to $38.20 per hour with full time conditions, plus super.

We have no requirement to work weekends.
