The Role

The Configuration Officer role within the Maritime Support Branch will be accountable to perform and achieve, Configuration Management (CM) Assurance and Governance activities within an integrated workforce.

They will have in-depth knowledge of configuration management and Quality Management, and will be responsible for the management reporting and support Continuous Improvement in Maritime CM.


The Configuration Officer will support Maritime System Program Office's in providing 2nd level Assurance services and assistance in CM Policy and Practices.

Within the APS 6 Job family, the position of Configuration officer will be responsible for assurance of configuration management practices across the maritime enterprises to ensure conformance to the Royal Australian Navy CM Policy framework.


About our Team

The Configuration Management Assurance and Governance (CMAG) Team at Directorate of Maritime Engineering and Logistics (DMEL) within the Maritime Support Branch provides Navy and CASG with CM support and expertise across the Capability Life Cycle (CLC) in four functional areas to achieve the purpose of ongoing Naval Seaworthiness.

These four functions have been structured to contribute to the ongoing sustainment of the five tenets of CM, for relevant stakeholders across the CLC, to deliver confidence in CM towards the Seaworthiness outcome of the surface fleet:


  • CM Performance Measurement and Assurance
  • CM Policy and Practice
  • CM Professionalisation
  • CM Advocacy and Leadership.


The Configuration officer will have moderate to extensive experience in Configuration Management practice and associated tools; Quality Management Practice and associated software tools; have highly developed analytical skills with advanced MS Office suite skills; and, be adept at initiating, building and maintaining strong relationships in order to facilitate collaboration with internal and external stakeholders at various levels.
