ABOUT THE ROLE

To successfully develop its renewable energy projects in Australia, Fortescue will assist unlock opportunities for native title partners, including by adhering to - and maximising opportunities associated with - the Native Title Act and legislation related to protection of Aboriginal heritage.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (ALL ROLES):


  • Collaborate effectively with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to understand project requirements.
  • Identify and communicate native title and related approvals requirements to project teams, including implications for project timeframes including as informed by advice from the Manager.
  • Review and analyse proposed native title and heritage agreements.
  • Assist Communities and project teams in building and maintaining effective relationships with native title partners.
  • Track obligations and commitments and maintain stakeholder engagement records.
  • Provide highlevel support for leaders and teammates.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (ADDITIONAL FOR SPECIALIST AND PRINCIPAL):

  • Review, draft and negotiate native title and heritage agreements.
  • Assist the design of engagement strategies, and assist formal negotiations, to deliver tenure for the business and outcomes for native title partners.
  • Mentor and provide guidance for less experienced teammates.
  • Provide highlevel support for the Manager.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (ADDITIONAL FOR PRINCIPAL):


  • Assist leadership and management of team members, with direct reports.
  • Deputising for the Manager on an adhoc basis, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:


  • Degree demonstrated by the applicant to be relevant.
  • Understanding of the Native Title Act 1993 and Aboriginal Heritage Act 197
  • Cultural competency in working with native title parties and Aboriginal corporations.
  • High level verbal, visual and written communication, appropriate to audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fastpaced and dynamic environment with competing demands.
  • Exceptional time and resource management to deliver positive outcomes.
  • Ability to travel to regional locations, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED (ADDITIONAL FOR PRINCIPAL):

  • Law degree or social science degree and suitable experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements.
  • Considerable applied understanding of the Native Title Act 1993 and its interaction with the Land Administration Act 1997 and Mining Act 1978 and Aboriginal Heritage Act 197
  • Understanding of proposed changes to WA's heritage regime under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021.
