About the department:


The department is equipped with a full range of state-of-the-art imaging equipment including multi-slice CT, MRI and high-resolution ultrasound equipment. There is a wide range of interventional procedures performed, particularly in hepatobiliary and oncology intervention. The main department is located on Levels 1 and 2 of the Lance Townsend Building, Austin Hospital. The department medical staff comprises 20.5 EFT of Staff Radiologists (Diagnostic, Interventional and Neurointerventional Specialists) and 20 Radiology Registrars and 4 Fellows. The Austin Hospital department includes three MRI machines, two CTs, three Angiography suites, one Fluoroscopy suite and six Ultrasound units. The Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital department provides mostly outpatient services. It consists of two CT machines, Fluoroscopy, Mammography and five Ultrasound rooms.

About the role:


Oncology:

-
Teaching of Registrars, resident staff and medical students will be required. Participation in research is strongly encouraged. Participation in both clinical audit and research is expected and required. Fellows will be rostered to various modalities, including to our outpatient facility at the Repatriation Hospital. There is an on-call and after hours requirement including two weeks of nights.

Cardiothoracic:


  • The Cardiothoracic Radiology Fellowship will predominantly involve a majority of diagnostic imaging, with some interventional experience (e.g. CT guided lung biopsy) as part of clinical service. The Fellow will become experienced and competent in the interpretation and assessment of CT coronary angiography, CT TAVI planning, adult cardiac MRI, high resolution CT of the chest, and vascular assessment.
  • Austin Health has active Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Units, and Interventional Cardiologists with a large number of patients presenting for evaluation, workup and monitoring of cardiac and respiratory disease. The Cardiac and Thoracic Radiologists work very closely with cardiologists, respiratory physicians, cardiac surgeons and thoracic surgeons to ensure very high levels of care.
  • The successful Fellow is expected to run the weekly Respiratory and Thoracic Surgery meetings, and Lung Cancer multidisciplinary meetings. The Fellow will also be responsible for combined Cardiology-Radiology Educational Sessions and TAVI planning meetings on a monthly basis. There will also be opportunity to attend Echocardiography interesting case sessions if desired.
  • Participation in both clinical audit and research is expected and required. Teaching of Registrars, resident staff and medical students is expected. Rostering is modality based, with exposure to MR, CT, US and ED radiology, as well as sessions at the outpatient facility, the Repatriation General Hospital. All fellows will receive academic time. There is an oncall requirement, which includes 2 weeks of night duty.
