About the role

The position will work closely with divisional and regional staff to provide strategic and technical advice and collaboratively develop projects for the effective management of Victoria's marine protected areas.

The Program Leader - Marine and Coastal provides leadership and strategic advice on marine and coastal environment and conservation matters to the Environment and Science Directorate, other Parks Victoria divisions and regional staff and our strategic partners.

The position works closely with regional and divisional staff to provide authoritative technical advice into environment and conservation programs, planning and management in relation to marine and coastal matters.

The role develops and supports state-wide program directions and priorities for marine and coastal conservation in parks and reserves by maintaining and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, funders and community partners and contributing to the development and implementation of marine and coastal conservation projects, research, monitoring and evaluation programs to inform marine and coastal management.


We're looking for someone with:


  • Specialist or Post Graduate qualification in marine or coastal environmental science, natural resource management or significant relevant experience
  • Proven knowledge of marine and coastal ecosystems and experience in natural resource management principles and practices applicable to marine and coastal management, including the provision of technical analysis and advice
  • Demonstrated experience using and contributing to the development of collaborative scientific research and monitoring programs to inform marine management and conservation programs
  • A current Resume
  • A cover letter addressing the Key Selection Criteria (KSC) as outlined in the position description.

The Marine and Coastal Science and Programs unit leads science, research, monitoring, conservation programs and planning to support effective management of Parks Victoria's marine and coastal estate.

The unit establishes strategic directions and priorities for conservation programs and research in marine and coastal parks and reserves and implements priority marine and coastal research and monitoring projects.

The unit has a focus on strong positive relationships with external partners to facilitate integrated marine and coastal policies and programs.
