HEAD OF FLEET PROJECTS

An exciting opportunity exists for someone to join our team, on a permanent basis as Head of Fleet Projects.

The role will see you taking the lead in initiating, developing, and implementing Rolling Stock projects, including liaising with sponsors and partners; supervising members of the project team; overseeing project implementation, financial and administrative oversight and governance, reporting, and performance monitoring and evaluation.

Role is based in 700Collins Street Melbourne, VIC 3000

Approximate salary range including superannuation is $230k - $240k


Responsibilities include:
Projects

  • Provide technical and project leadership for successful implementation of project activities.
  • Ensure that projects produce the specified results in the annual rolling stock workplan(s) to the required standard of quality and within the timeline and budget parameters.
  • Conduct regular reviews to ensure accountability of all project activities as well as the accurate and timely reporting of financial deliverables and obligations.
  • Oversee budget pipeline development and budget monitoring.
  • Manage the initiation and development phases to ensure that programs and projects are technically sound, evidencebased, and consistent with funder and stakeholders' priorities; prepare budgets and briefs to reflect the same.
  • Provide oversight of program implementation including all activities, outputs, and outcomes related to project management and administration, including reporting, budget development and monitoring, financial transactions, execution of project plans, and project performance.
  • Ensure projects are effectively handed over postcompletion including maintenance integration.
  • Review post project evaluations to learn and share this information across the team and strategically plan improvements in delivery method.
  • Act as the primary project contact person and liaison, representing Rolling Stock Projects as appropriate across the business in particular with key stakeholders and the DoT, being the escalation point for any resource and project delivery issues and to effectively resolve the same.
  • Provide consistent and concise reports detailing insights, monitoring and evaluation to key stakeholders including Senior Management, internal and external clients, and the Project Management Office.
  • Negotiate resource availability and recruit adequate new resources.
  • Monitor staff performance and complete performance reviews.
  • Ensure working relationships with relevant stakeholders are clearly defined and understood, and that areas of conflict are identified and anticipated, and that consultation is undertaken to achieve industrial harmony.
You will also have the opportunity to lead and develop two delivery facilities:

  • An electronic and mechanical workshop, working closely with the Heavy Maintenance and Contracts team to leverage the internal capacity to complete in-house off-train and on-train overhaul, repair and refurbishment works.
  • A dedicated project delivery depot including bogie transfer station, overhead gantry and spray-painting facility.

About you:

  • Engineering Degree with appropriate experience to allow admittance to Engineers Australia as a Member (Professional Engineer, Engineering Technologist or Engineering Associate).
  • At least 10 years' experience in a technical leadership position including at least 6 years' experience in design management and project management in a rolling stock environment; encompassing planning, costing, contract management, design as well as implementing and evaluating multimilliondollar projects.
  • Demonstrated strong diplomatic, management and communication skills to effectively engage across a broad spectrum including internal and external stakeholders, advocates, government agencies, thought leaders and the bluecollar workforce.
