About the role:

A key leadership role within Merri-bek City Council, this position is responsible for leading the Urban Forest Unit.

The role works across the organisation and with the community to strategically develop, plan and deliver the outcomes described in Council's Urban Forest Strategy, managing the maintenance of the urban forest to reduce risk, promote urban cooling and improve amenity.


Skills and experience require to perform the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in Arboriculture or related disciplines and/or relevant experience managing an urban forest and tree maintenance service delivery is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in managing, leading, motivating, and developing staff to create an outcomefocussed, changeready, innovationsavvy and performanceoriented culture.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations governing workplace health and safety in Victoria.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to implement competitive business management principles and practices including the ability to network widely and identify and introduce practices to workgroups that will improve productivity and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Child safety and wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the Urban Forest Unit.
