Why Your Role Matters:

The Head of International Relations will work closely and collaboratively with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global, and Pro Vice-Chancellor International to position UNSW as a world leading university within our global stakeholder community, the diplomatic community in Australia, and across our key international networks.

Working in collaboration with the wider DVC Global team, the role provides strategic advice on diplomatic matters to the most senior levels of the university and manages the University's high level inward delegations.

In addition to developing and implementing a comprehensive diplomatic relations strategy and engagement plan for UNSW, this role is responsible for providing strategic global insight and foresight and for developing strategic transnational partnerships and collaborations with other universities, government agencies, industry partners, and other stakeholders to advance UNSW's international education, business development and innovation agenda.

Who You Are:

  • Proven track record in developing and managing relationships with diplomatic missions, government entities, and international organisations.
  • A proven understanding of the strategic drivers for international partnerships and knowledge of international policies, protocols, and diplomatic etiquettes in addition to a strong understanding of the higher education sector and experience in internationalisation efforts.
  • Proficiency/fluency in other languages (desirable).
  • Experience proactively engaging with diplomats, ambassadors, and other stakeholders to build strong relationships and partnerships for UNSW.
  • Demonstrable experience organising and hosting diplomatic events, receptions, and visits to promote the university and showcase its academic and research excellence.
  • Experience working collaboratively with senior leaders to identify opportunities for collaboration and joint initiatives with diplomatic missions and international organizations.
  • Experience liaising with government agencies and other relevant entities to navigate regulatory processes and foster international partnerships for research, education, and innovation.
  • The ability to identify and pursue opportunities for joint research projects, exchange programs, and academic partnerships with universities and research institutions across the globe.
  • Support international delegations visiting the university, arranging meetings, and facilitating productive interactions with university leadership, Faculties, staff, and students.
  • Solid understanding of international trends, political landscapes, and policy changes that may impact the university's diplomatic and international relations strategy and oversee high quality reporting and analytics on diplomatic and international policy issues.
  • Ability to prepare and present Council papers, management briefs and highlevel correspondence to key stakeholders in relation to diplomatic affairs.
