We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

About the role


We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive IAP Worker to provide an immediate crisis response to those experiencing homelessness and assessing those at risk of homelessness and provide referrals to address their complex needs.

The Western Metro Homelessness Service is the Entry Point to services for the Brimbank Melton catchment. The primary service site is home to a variety of programs from homelessness, family violence and community streams.


The purpose of the role is to provide an immediate crisis response to those experiencing homelessness and assessing those at risk of homelessness and providing referrals to address their complex needs.

Tasks will include providing high-level initial support to those experiencing homelessness and the related stresses by conducting thorough assessments, referrals and housing-related information and sourcing crisis accommodation for those in primary need.

You will successfully

  • Provide professional service delivery
  • Collaborate with internal and external key stake holders
  • Ensure suitable referrals are sent to internal and external agencies
  • Utilise strength based and trauma informed practices to undertake assessments
  • Clients are provided with HEF and other brokerage in accordance with DFFH guidelines
  • All required HEF data and administrative tasks are completed promptly
  • Understand and meet funding requirements of internal and external agencies where applicable
  • Recording of comprehensive case notes in a timely manner
  • Data is collected and stored in line with privacy procedures
  • Ability to selfaudit files
  • Understand and meet funding requirements of external agencies


This is a permanent part-time position, 30.4 hours per week, reporting to the Access Point Coordinator, located at Sunshine, VIC.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 4.

You will have

  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army
  • Previous experience working within the homelessness sector or a keen interest to develop a career in the homelessness sector
  • Preferred Certificate III or Diploma of Community Services
  • Demonstrates knowledge of homelessness including context, causes, issues, philosophies and legislation
  • Understands and applies homelessness models, approaches, theories and practices when dealing with clients
  • Ability to understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
