The Company
Take charge of the HSE strategy at this innovative, family-owned wholesale and retail seafood company.

You will be joining a diverse organisation that has over 60 years of operations in the commercial fishing, seafood production and distribution industries, providing employment to over 200 staff across Australia.

Their products can be found in many Australian supermarkets, local retail outlets and international markets.


The Position


The overarching purpose of this role is to drive the development and continuous improvement of a proactive safety culture, that promotes the safety and wellbeing of all staff.

Some of the other key responsibilities include (but not limited to);

  • Working collaboratively with and actively coaching and mentoring operational leaders and other site leaders to increase their knowledge, ownership and engagement regarding the implementation and maintenance of safety plans and programs.
  • Supporting and mentoring employees to ensure they work in a safe environment.
  • Conduct risk assessments to reduce hazards and the risk of injury in the workplace.
  • Work closely with the People and Culture Business Manager to ensure all new and existing employees are onboarded, trained and compliant with WHS competencies.
  • Ensure yearly business compliance by assisting with internal and external audits and maintaining legislative requirements.
  • Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies.

The Person


You will be joining a diverse business with exposure to food processing, fishing vessels of different types, warehousing, transport and administrative functions.

Relevant experience in manufacturing or food production will certainly make for a smoother transition into the role.

Some of your key qualities our client requires in this person are;

  • The position will see you advising the leadership team in your speciality area, so it does require a person with that level of engagement, seniority and experience.
  • Relevant qualifications in HSE will be highly desired, such as a Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Training experience and qualifications will also be highly regarded.
  • Our client certainly is open to a person in this role that has progressed their career from other areas of the business such as a trade or production function, to the HSE specialisation.
  • You will be required to travel domestically in this role, so a driver's licence is required.
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be an influencer in the workplace.
No two days will be the same in this important specialist position at one of Australia premier seafood businesses.
