About the Role


The Practitioner sits within the Kinship Team providing case management and support to Kinship Care (kith and kin), placements made by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), and voluntary kinship placements across the Brimbank and Melton local government areas.


A key focus of the role is to work in partnership with Child Protection and other support services, and kinship carers to provide support to vulnerable children, young people, as well as their kinship carer(s), who can present with a range of complex issues related to drug and alcohol use, family violence, mental health, and cycles of disadvantage and poverty resulting in chronic neglect and cumulative harm.

You will ideally bring the following:
Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or other relevant Human Services qualification and/or experience

Excellent family and child assessment skills including risk assessment of children and young people as well as assessment of caregivers

Demonstrated case management skills with complex families and at-risk children and young people

Knowledge and experience of maintaining positive working relationships with DFFH and other professionals and families in challenging situations

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including, negotiation, persuasion, and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated ability to adapt to meet a changing environment and needs of carer and/or client group while maintaining focus on delivery outcomes

Understanding of evidence
- based knowledge and implementation of therapeutic models and theories to develop skill-based interventions that enable positive change

Demonstrated expertise in responding creatively to the needs of children and young people with highly complex issues

Demonstrated ability to adjust to meet the changing situations and needs of the staff, and client group while maintain focus on delivery and follow-through

Sound stakeholder management and the ability to build and maintain strong, credible relationships with relevant stakeholders

Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft office Suite.

Willingness to obtain a Police check through Baptcare

Current Working With Children Check

Victorian Driver's License

Minimum two doses of Covid-19 vaccination or willingness to obtain before commencement
